Students studying illustration, graphic design, animation and photography in the UK were invited to submit entries for the 2013 competition. There are cash prizes of £1,000, £600 and £400 for first, second and third place (open to all categories) and a further three prizes of £250 for the highly commended in (the individual categories) illustration/graphics, photography and animation. These prizes are not open to the first, second and third place winners.
In addition the best entries – around 80 of them – will have the honour of being put on public display from 10 am to 4.30 pm from Monday 29th July to Thursday 1st August in the Entrance, West, and New Galleries at Sotheby’s in Bond Street in the West End. You can click on this link to see images of the 2013 entries that will be displayed at Sotheby’s.
Competitors were required to submit an item which is entirely their own recent work and is original. The submission may be a photograph, illustration, design or animation. It should elucidate any aspect of the understanding of time, horology or related subjects. It must be in 2 dimensions.
“Picturing Time” represents an opportunity for students to gain some recognition for their work from potential employers and the media, as well as win valuable prizes. The competition was announced just prior to the academic year so that students could use their entry for this competition as one of their projects within the current course at their University or College. It is part of a regular cycle of such events to create interest in the topics of watchmaking, clockmaking and related crafts.
The panel of judges was chosen for their eminence in their field of work.  Once again, thanks to the generosity of Sotheby’s, an exhibition of the short-listed entries and the final judging will take place at their New Bond Street Galleries in London week commencing 29th July 2013.  The prize giving reception hosted by the prestigious watchmakers Vacheron Constantin will take place there on the evening of Thursday 1st August – entry to this is by special invitation.

Stoke gets over 200 Degrees in the shade!!!!!!!!!!

....mainly due to the fact that it was our Annual Degree Ceremony on Fri 12th July. In fact, in addition to all the degrees awarded in the huge marquee....it was nudging 30 degrees outside......a great day at Trentham Gardens and a great send-off for all the students!

After the awards, speeches and prize giving, it was outside for Pimms, a hog roast (which pretty much cooked itself in the heat!!!), champagne, a live jazz band, plenty of food, cider, more food, refreshing lager.......doesnt get much better than that!!!! well done once again to all the graduating students - but especially, Graphic Design & Illustration students.

D&AD has left the building.........

Sadly it's all over again for another year. We were in at 8am and out by 8.50am.....all packed, in the van and ready to make the journey North. I think its a good time to go as London is beginning to 'warm up',,,...and Spitalfields is not known for its air-con!!!!!.........so until next year, we wave goodbye to London and look forward to our Degree Ceremony next Friday!!!!!
