Showing how it's done!

Well, its been a fun, frantic and sometimes frustrating end to the semester 2013 at Staffs!  The Degree Show was a huge success, the studio looked amazing - and so did the work. Congratulations to all involved. Graphic Design & Illustration students stepped upto the mark and made friends, family and staff proud of their achievements!  We've had another handful of awards and shortlisted students....watch this space for updates,........

Many students are already embarking on work placements and interviews (including second year students).  D&AD is looming and final preparations are in hand to once again fly the creative flag of Staffs in London. The event is open to the public from 3rd-5th July at Spitalfields - come and say hello - we'd love to see you.

No doubt the very next post on here will be a tale of triumphant 'New Blood' Awards and recollections of great stories from the students at the New Blood event.......meanwhile, take a look at the 'before', 'during', and 'after' scenes at the degree show..........the studio has never looked so untidy....then magnificent...then untidy again...when the furniture was moved back in again ready to be put in place for the new flock of students in September.

Tips on Type

Graduates from Staffordshire - Aaron Alexander, Matt Forrester and Andy Cooke feature in a new book called How To Use Type (By Lindsey Marshall and Lester Meachem-Laurence King publishers).

5 pieces of innovative design have been selected to illustrate unique techniques.......

Guns 'N' Roses

Thursday 14th March saw the end of weeks of waiting and a month of hard work by Level 5 & 6 students at Staffordshire....as the winners and runners up of the annual Roses competition were announced.....

The event was held at Islington Mill, Salford, and the big guns of the industry provided feedback on the judging and entries for each brief. As always, Staffordshire did pretty well!!!  Sophie Hill won her category and gets a work placement at The Chase.......Julie Brock and Kate Parkes were runners up in their category and will get a placement at Viv-id, while Craig Palmer, Ryan Waldron and Tirath Bansal were all runners up in their respective categories!!!

Well done to all the students who entered.....and those that braved the cold and rain to get upto Salford were rewarded with a great networking event (and free wine!!).

From A to B. (Ale to Baskerville!!)

A recent visit to the launch of the Baskerville Typographic Society was enjoyed on many enjoyable levels!!!   What better (or bitter) way to spend an evening than drinking specially brewed Baskerville Bitter, Baskerville cakes and a play based on John Baskerville's life.........nothing comes close. Definitely my type of night.

From Stoke to the Smoke...........

Staffordshire Graphic Design, Illustration and Cartoon & Comic Arts students embarked on a cultural visit to London this October - the annual trip was a great success and inspired all !!!!

Organised visits included Mother, Coley Porter Bell, Whitechapel Gallery, Tate Modern, British Museum, Forbidden Planet, Gosh!, D&AD Presidents' Lecture with Neville Brody and Tom Roope.....oh, and some pubs.........needless to say, we think London will miss us!  see you next year!
